When the government tries to stop your speech they have violated your FREEDOM OF SPEECH.
There is no freedom to post anonymously on a private message board.
My problem is non the anonymity per se. It is that on anonymous boards mild mannered respectful people sometimes becomes raving and nasty. Some have indicated that we should accept that as the way the internet works. I don't accept that. I don't treat people that way and I don't expect to be treated in that manner. One of the reasons I live in a small town is that I believe knowing your neighbors and living in a close knit community breeds a certain kind of civility. Why do these nice civil people, whom I greet on a daily basis in the village, feel the need to become bullies and know-it-alls due to the anonymity of a message board? |

Just don't come here if you don't like it.
There is no way this site can force people to sign their true name to post messages. |

Perhaps it is a true freedom of speech forum, but we can not say that we are truly debating anything or getting real news if we can not verify the sources... perhaps it is one person posting every thing, speading rumors, or debating both sides of the question. |

You misunderstood my post. I was not calling for people to sign there names. I was wondering why this board has such a lack of civility. Your reply seems to say, "if you don't like rude behavior don't come on this board."
If we follow this to its logical conclusion all that will remain will be rude posts flaming each other. What will that accomplish. Moreover, would you like such a board? |

I don't see rude posts lately (I don't care about the blue roaster messages, so I just ignore them). So that's good.
If people need to sign in to post, there is no way to prevent people from signing up multiple accounts and post messages from each account. In fact, this will create an illusion of different people posting messages.
For example, I can create 5 accounts (email addresses are easy to get): Win, David, Jay, Rich, and David2. I'll be able to post a message from each account. Non-Internet-savvy folks will think that the messages are from 5 different people. |

LMAO just thinking of one person creating those 5 accounts and then holding a conversation on this board. How many people would think they would have real exchanges.
Post 1 David- I think we need to be bigger and better in town. We're too small.
Post 2 Richard- I agree, but how?
Post 3 Jay- we could hold a concert at every meeting and throw an after party for town employees.
Post 4 Dave2- I agree because between James Taylor and Dave Cook we have a famous TC that has some good records behind them. How many other towns have 2 famous names on them? We will rock out in Town Hall.
Post 5 Win- okay, but as overseer of finances I need to make sure the concerts are within the levy caps. |
