Westland has been a lead investor in The Bank of Princeton, where he has served as Chairman of the Advisory Board. The Bank of Princeton was incorporated in 2006 with a mission of serving the community banking needs of its local market area. Today, the Bank has over 50 employees and has loaned more than $200mm to support local businesses . Many of the newest merchants and small businesses in the Princeton area have added new employees and created a vibrant business district through loans and financial counseling offered through the bank’s five branches. Westland is also a lead investor in BlogTalkRadio, Zhena’s Gypsy Tea, and The Narragansett Brewing Company.
Previously, Scott had a highly successful career as a senior executive in the financial services industry. Scott became a Managing Director at Morgan Stanley at age 32, where he ultimately rose to head the firm’s Equity Capital Markets Division, a group that raises growth capital for US corporations. In 1998, Scott decided to launch his own investment firm. For a decade as a money manager to some of the nation’s largest foundations and university endowments, Scott’s investment returns dramatically outperformed the market indexes. His Copper Arch Capital received public acclaim for challenging deficiencies in corporate governance and executive excess.
As a Princeton resident, Scott has been President of the Princeton-Cranbury Babe Ruth Baseball League and was a fixture for many years coaching in the Princeton Little League. He is currently a Trustee of the Historical Society of Princeton. He has also served on a local citizen’s committee studying the issues surrounding property revaluation. His Princeton home, the restored former residence of President Grover Cleveland, has hosted fund-raisers for many local charities including Isles, The Historical Society, Historic Morven, D&R Greenway, and The Garden Club of Princeton, among others. Through his Sipprelle Charitable Corporation, Scott and his wife Tracy have been active supporters of philanthropic endeavors in the region focused on education and self-reliance programs addressing the hardships of poverty. The Sipprelle Foundation provided primary funding for the establishment of Isles Community Enterprises, an initiative focused on financial literacy and micro-lending in Trenton.
Scott graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Hamilton College, with a concentration in Economics and Government and was the recipient of the Clark Prize in Public Speaking. He is married to his college sweetheart, Tracy, and has three children, Jessica, David, and Stephen. Scott is the son of diplomats and spent a portion of his childhood living overseas, primarily in Latin America and the Middle East, while his parents served over three decades representing America’s foreign policy interests abroad. Scott is an ardent baseball fan and enjoys outdoor physical activities of any kind. He enjoys reading historical biographies and recently authored The Golden Dog, a mystery novel set on Wall Street.
Scott’s first taste of politics came as a college intern in the office of Senator Pete Wilson (R-CA). Scott has been active in the Republican Association of Princeton and the Mercer County Capital Republican Club and serves as a Republican Committeeman for the 8th District in Princeton Borough. Scott and Tracy organized and hosted the 2009 Princeton Lincoln Day Dinner, a hugely successful event featuring then-gubernatorial candidate Chris Christie. |
