There is always a lot of negative talk, but I think some positive talk is missing about the good work our TC people do.
Last night I attended a TC meeting for the first time in a while and I have to say I was impressed with the dialogue and exchange. Here are some of the things I saw that impressed me.
- Mr. Cook- he gave a detailed explanation of COAH and he also outlined his work with the New Engineer for the town. In addition, he said he investigated the cost of town trash pick up and it could save money. He's going to look at this further. I think this would be great if it can save me money.
- Mr. Cody- He pushed hard on the former engineer and the costs they charged the town. The TC supported him and perhaps some savings can be had. He also said they charged to speak with the paper and opposed this cost. The TC all agreed that this should not happen.
- Mr. Taylor- not sure where to start. He gave what seemed like a 10 minute talk discussing a number of departments, spending and how it aligned with the budget. He seemed to be watching every penny and to be involved in a lot. He talked about road salt cost, the repairs coming in under budget for some town vehicles and about repairs that need to be made with our buildings and their costs. He also read the volunteer names from the fire and first aid who were the top call takers and were honored this year for their length of service. I believe we had two names with over 70 yrs of service.
On the TC as a whole, discussion occurred openly. There was a moment of brevity when the historical society presented their design for a town flag.
Mr. Taylor offered that he had spoken with the TC members and the TC would each contribute personally to buy the first town flag for our town. Then the person from the society said they had a bigger flag for more money . The TC laughed and said Mr. Taylor had pulled a bait and switch on them. To which he replied he's calling the better business bureau .
They also discussed town hall operating hours and trying to make it more resident friendly. |

It was not a controversial meeting. You should have been at the previous meeting for the discussion of COAH on the north end of town. It had yelling, screaming and all! |
