The TC meeting was pretty good and I want to thank Mr. Taylor and Mr. Cody for their diligence in reviewing our bills and Mr. Cook for thinking outside the box to save us money.

Last night Teddy was honored for his service to the town and it was great to hear his comments about Cranbury being his second home and meaning so much to him.

At the bill pay part Mr. Cody highlighted an 11,000 over charge from a town contractor and Mr. Taylor noted about 10 hrs of time for attorney charges speaking directly with residents and another charge done by error for something that the attorney agreed was in error. Dave is working on the garbage collection and it looks to be substantial savings for us. He mentioned having presentations from companies at a future TC meeting. I am very thankful to have these three watching my tax dollars. It is concerning that in years prior these issues were not caught and how much we must have lost. But, going forward we're in good hands.

The budget was presented and the TC is keeping taxes flat as promised. They have a salary increase pool of a total of 14,000 to be split on a merit basis, however, that may not all be spent.

Also, the civil war reenactor group will be putting in a monument to honor the civil war soldiers at no cost to the town.

Does anyone know what the 11,000 overcharge was for?

Obviously this person wants to "Cover Up" the truth behind the expenses, Pun Intended.

So now with the joke out of the way, what were the 11,000 in expenses for?

The charges in question were for the engineer and are being reviewed and investigated by Win.

What's the story with $25000 spent for Cathy Marcelli's firm to INSPECT curbs in Griggs tract?

Unions exist because everyone wants something for nothing. Without unions people like teachers and cops which are essential would live at or below the poverty line. People want their children to have the best education but they want to pay as little as possible. Unions are supposed to even the odds a little bit

The odds were evened a long long time ago. The scale has now tipped the other way to such an extent that we can no longer afford to pay. The average State / Government Employee is now making more then someone doing a similar or comparable job in the private sector.

In a recent star ledger article they cited how New Jersey teachers this past year on average had their salaries rise by about 5% which was double the rate of inflation. Also keep in mind these raises came at a time when 10% of New Jersey residents are out of work.

What's the definition of a "comparable" job in the private sector? The way I read this chart is they are higher than the average pay in the private sector, not a specifically comparable position.

I have no problem with police officers and paid firefighters making what they do. We ask them to do things, and go places we ourselves are afraid to do. These jobs are not paid for what they do. They are paid for what they might have to do.

$63K for teachers is still far too low for their value to our society.

I don't know where this comes from, but it has nothing to do with the history of the labor movement.

Unions were formed in this country primarily to address working conditions( child labor, 8 hour, days etc.). Unions became strongest in heavy industry and mining. In these industries which often had monopoly profits(high capital requirements presented barriers to entry) unions carried the day with bargaining fight with ownership over profits.

Now lets talk about public sector unions. There are no profits.

Unions were supposed to even the odds with large industries that are sometimes monopsonists(only employer in an area).

Who are public sector employees supposed to even the odds with? Funny that in this country as heavy industry is on the wan, so are the industrial unions. Now the strongest unions in this country are public sector unions, which I truly believe serve no useful purpose.

The source for the average teacher salary is the NJEA. Perhaps these are old numbers, I think the average is closer to $70,000. That is a ten month contract. Translates to $84,000. Does this include coaching salaries and other extras?

Also, in this area most starting salaries for teachers are $50,000. Again a ten month contract. So this is $60,000 a year. How many 1st jobs for kids out of college start at $60,000 a year with full benefits.

There was a time when you could easily argue teachers were underpaid. That time is gone.

If teachers or other members of public worker unions(ie cops) are so overpaid how many of them live in Cranbury? Just curious.

I don't think the argument is that they are overpaid, just that they are not underpaid. They are paid a competitive salary. How many of them live in Cranbury is irrelevant.
