I cannot believe they changed the speed limit to 35 mph on old trenton road. I understand that people wanted to make the speed limit slower - but c'mon - 35?? It should at least have been made 40.... On South Main St going towards 130 the speed limit is 40 and there are more houses there with sidewalks where people walk. This town is getting a little out of control! Next thing you know - the speed limit thru the town will be 15....

I wonder if this is temporary or permanent. The road is being worked on; I can understand the lower 35mph speed limit.

Ted Striker: Surely you can't be serious.
Rumack: I am serious... and don't call me Shirley

People on Old Trenton Road asked for the lower limit.

According to meeting minutes about the lowering of the limit, the engineer or someone (trying to recall from memory) stated that the limit can only be changed to 45 or 35.

State law requires the speed limit to be changed one of two ways through a speed survey or through changing it to the state approved 35 imph. The town tried the speed survey route many times over the years and the justification was not accepted by the county 85% of cars did the speed limit.

The other way is to go to one of the three acceptable state approved limits- 25, 35 or 50. The county lowered the speed limit to 35 because people complained.

Then the engineer was wrong since the limit was 50 before.

No, the speed limit was set by the county was 50 as legally allowed. It can be reduced to 35 or 25 according to state law without a study. The engineer was not wrong. It can only be CHANGED from 50 to 35 without a study.

Why is everyone is such a rush? 35 is great you will get from say south main street to milstone park what seconds slower then if it were 50? All while making the road safer.

Personally, I don't like 35 on that stretch. I have been tailgated big time the last few days. I hope that another speed study is done in a couple of years and then we argue that it needs to be raised to 40.

Why the new topic? This was already covered exhaustively in the other one. The concensus was almost no one wanted 35. They wanted 40, which is the same speed it already is before and after this stretch of road. No one from Cranbury asked for 35, they asked for 40. We got stuck with 35 because of some idiotic arcane county rules.

This is potentially a "profit center" for the Cranbury police, if the speed limit is enforced. Laughing

Yeah, why can't they leave everything like in the good ol' days when we all walked 10 miles through the snow to school, uphill, and liked it gosh darnit! These city slickers with their fancy "progress" are ruining everything that's good and holy. Next thing you know their be ways to talk over wires or travel like a bird or who knows what. Why would anyone want that?
