How dare you introduce any critiques of ANYTHING into Cranbury.
We only think of the positive, the light and airy around here.
Why, you may call us Pleasantville, just like in that movie!
Everything is black & white and grey all over. |
critiques are one thing, childish name calling is another, and I agree with all other posters, move out of cranbury to the playground if you want to act that way. This board is for grownups |
Eeeeeewwwwwwwww...............
Mater & Pater sending you off to play the grand piano?
Don't we speak posh now, Govnah? |

Cranbury - love it or leave it - and you better be serious about it and see it my way
Now where have I heard that before and how come it always originates from the same place?
Wish we had Buckley around to reign in the Bircher types now |

Perhaps we can try (futile perhaps?) to get back to focusing on the real issues of these candidates, as publically expressed by them, rather than whatever they may or may not be associated with, by rumor and innuendo, in the past?
I’ll start. Glenn Johnson had an editorial in the Cranbury Press today supporting the Township spending money to acquire sites to convert for additional parking on Main Street. Some of you might like that idea and if so, there’s one reason to vote for him. Personally I oppose that idea for several reasons: 1) I don’t think we have a “parking problem.” 2) To the extent there are parking inconveniences, I don’t think they warrant taxpayers putting up at least hundreds-of-thousands (perhaps more in the end) to acquire a site to address it; 3) I am not in favor of seeing any current homes or structures modified in favor of parking that is visible on Main Street. Glenn did not specifically say it would be, but that is my inference since there remains several under-utilized public parking locations just off Main Street so if they don’t count one has to presume the “problem” is only addressed with parking directly off Main.
I agree with him that making each spot smaller would be a bad idea and I am agnostic on removing the post office box to add spots (I don’t know enough about the consequences of that and how many people use it).
Net result, it is one issue I am not supportive of his campaign on. I remain open to hearing his and the other candidates platforms before I make up my mind. |

Thanks. I looked at the Cranbury Press site and am posting the letter. I too think this is a bad idea. First, I can think of only one lot available- the old water tower lot. It's contaminated soil from years of lead paint on the structure. Further, it's in a location that people going downtown would not use. Third, I foresee a number of properties coming up for farmland preservation given the economy. I'd rather spend money there then on a lot for parking. Fourth, we have a 2% tax cap how do we justify spending on nice to haves at this time? How can we justify spending money like this and while I don't attend every TC meeting I never heard a proposal to shorten parking spaces come up.
Here is the letter.
http://www.centraljersey.com/cranbury_press/your_views/Glenn Johnson, of Cranbury
Since the sale of the former PNC Bank location in Cranbury, the parking problem in our downtown has become acute.
There are some easy changes that could put a small number of additional spaces in service quickly.
One example is asking the post office to remove the mailbox from its location in front of the former PNC Bank so several new parking spaces could be striped.
These changes would help, but the real solution will involve acquiring land on which to construct a parking lot. There are only a couple of possible sites with the potential to ease the situation.
I am committed to helping devise a solution that will make our downtown more accessible and usable for business owners and customers alike.
I am opposed, however, to reducing the length of existing parking spaces in an effort to fit more cars along existing curbs. |

I'm sure businesses like the Blu Rooster will love the idea of government supported parking. I think its crazy. |

Open Space Farmland Preservation:
Art ... ???
Dan ... Support
Glenn ... Preserve
Taxes:
Art ... curtail future drastic tax increase
Dan ... Keep municipal taxes low and reduce costs
Glenn ... ???
Art, please define "drastic"
Art, what's your position on farmland preservation
Dan, do you really think municipal taxes are low? You website states you want to "keep them low"
Glenn, any position on taxes? Mine almost doubled in the past 10 years.....and I don't see an end in sight with all these projects coming up.
I don't expect all three to comment on here....even though I am sure they are looking... |

I believe we have now gone 2 years now without raising the municipal tax rate. |

Q:"Dan, do you really think municipal taxes are low? You website states you want to "keep them low"
A: This may be a case of semantics as I support lower taxes and would like to see them lower then today. However I also can't predict the future of our ratables at this point or how our unfunded mandates such as affordable housing will turn out since the legislature has failed to move on the latest bill which would put our current obligations on hold for COAH. I would expect the little bit of money we get back from the state to continue to be eroded and to potentially even go away entirely much like we saw with the school funding formula this past year. Each of these factors will place a lot of pressure on our town as we try to provide services while keeping taxes low.
Ideally taxes would be lower then today in the future however again I can't make such guarantees but will make every effort if elected to find ways keep taxes as low as possible and even reduce them if we can.
Further this is only in regard to municipal taxes as the Township Committee does not have control over the School or County spending and the taxes which result from that. |

This comment is correct as I was at the budget meeting earlier this year where Jay Taylor, Dave Cook and Win Cody lobbied to keep the rate stable due to the economic climate of the time. I mention their names as they will be the returning members of the Committee after this election. |

As a Democrat who attended this was not what we see in the news today. This was the original Tea Party day that happened before the official tea party groups formed. |

What is pathetic about this post I made? Please tell me. Someone has been posting over and over about them being Tea Party members and then this appears. I wanted to set the record straight about this event. |
