In the past few weeks, I posted that I think it would be appropriate for Ms. Alfonso, or the school district, to address Ms. Alfonso's comments in the O'Keefe video. I suggested she should apologize, if her comments were portrayed accurately or clarify if they were not.
Some posts thoughtfully disagreed. Many, however, seemed to draw the conclusion that I must be an O'Keefe-trusting, Beck-following, poorly-educated, union-bashing, teacher-hating right wing nut infecting the community with vileness, as illustrated above and throughout this thread.
The fact that another teacher featured in the same video, her Superintendent and an NJEA spokesperson, ALL felt it was appropriate to respond, clarify, express regret and apologize for her comments, shows how ridiculous some of the criticisms of my POV really are. |
You strung together multiple quotes from completely different posts from different posters, some of which were referring to Ms. Alfonso and some of which weren't and formatted them as if they were a single post at one time by one person on one topic.
You really don't see why that would reflect poorly on your credibility?
It’s also disingenuous to compare what we see of Ms. Alfonso on the video with the reaction to the other teacher whose comments were substantially different, including specific derogatory references to people in her district and the use of the N-word. It’s the same tactic as the doctored quote you did, to take something unrelated and use it to justify a point with a different context. And then you wonder why you would be compared to O’Keefe? It’s not name calling or an attack, it’s a logical reaction to what you did. Your actions speak louder than words.
You seem to be missing the point of some of the responders. Even assuming she was quoted accurately she still doesn’t owe us an apology. I’m not saying she was quoted accurately but her saying something you don’t agree with or in your personal opinion “embarrassing the district” doesn’t entitle you to an apology. You obviously feel otherwise. You’re entitled to yours but yours doesn’t entitle you to have your way. Others obviously don’t share your opinion and are under no obligation to do so. |

Thank you for taking the time to explain why you read my post the way you did. My intention was to make it easier for readers to quickly review multiple and various responses to my posts, without having to re-read 100 posts and without creating 1 ridiculously long post. I suppose I could have made better use of quote commands, but if I were trying to trick you, I would not have included line breaks to differentiate between posts. I hope that clarifies things.
Because I knew my intention, I didn't see anything wrong with my post. I suspect that you are inclined to find fault with my posts, and you did. We all see things through our own lens.
Ms. Alfonso's comments are also open to interpretation. Her comments became news because it appeared she was saying "screw you" to taxpayers. It may be that O'Keefe took her comments out of context to make it seem that way. However, O'Keefe's interpretation became the news story and that is why Ms. Alfonso's comments merit a response. |
