Received via email:

Last night, the Cranbury Township Board of Education voted unanimously to appoint Mrs. Carol Malouf as Interim Chief School Administrator for the balance of the 2010-11 school year. Effective December 1, 2010, Mrs. Malouf will replace Mr. John Haney who is leaving the district for a position in Franklin. Mrs. Malouf retired from the Cranbury Township School District in June 2007 after 29 years of service, where she served as teacher, Vice Principal and Chief School Administrator.

With her working knowledge of the district, Mrs. Malouf will provide valuable assistance to the administration and staff during the transition as the Board focuses on its search for a permanent Chief School Administrator.

Please join us in welcoming Mrs. Malouf back “home”.

Lynne Schwarz
President, Cranbury Township Board of Education

How much will the salary be for 2010-2011 year? Are there any other financial concerns we should have?

The retirement pension of Mrs. Malouf is $5878. and her final yearly salary was $141,860. What will this present salary be?

what? why are you two questioning what mrs. malouf will be paid? we ought to be pretty grateful that she agreed to come back and we don't have to spend more time and money finding someone else.

We still do have to find someone. Mrs. Malouf is helping out on a temporary basis.

The point about salary is that the BoE seems to spend money like it is water and the taxpayers should know how much they are spending for someone who is "Helping OUT"

On what basis do you have the evidence to conclude that the BoE is "spending water like money"?

They are temporarily filling a vacated state-required position at a salary similar to the previous occupant and with a contract that allows them to discontinue to salary as soon as they have a permanent replacement. The net impact to the budget is at most single-digit thousands and the net result is someone who is experienced with the school and personnel who can be up-to-speed instantly instead of a learning curve on our dime.

I agree taxpayers should be able to ask questions and it seems like the BoE has scheduled an event and encouraged people to come to ask questions about the budget and provide input. And I agree we should question all the asusmptions to try and save costs. But to throw out stupid comments like they are "spending money like water" isn't helpful and just makes you look ignorant.

Now evaluate your comment. Challenging someone else's position is fine. Saying they are missing key points or information is fine. Name calling? Not so much. YOUR points would actually command more respect sans the disrespectful tones.

If you are concerned, go to their next meeting and ask them. . I know it is a bizarre concept, but it is rather simple to find out the facts you seem to want to know.

It is not like she was worth what she had been paid. The administrative cost for Cranbury is too high. Time to get real and lower administrative costs.

The final salary of Mrs. Malouf is a prime example of how the Cranbury BoE spent money like water. That salary of $141,860. to be an administrator of an elementary school is obscene. Considering the fact that the following folks we employed were paid considerably less. Examples: Chiefs of Police Jay Hansen $108,991, Edward Kahler $112,049, Harry Kleinkauf $89,068, Past superintendent Robert Bartoletti $111,617. Also consider the present salary of the Township Administrator is considerably less. We need to get the BoE spending in check. We also need a replacement with a contract that won't leave us in this position again.

The Administrator/Principal job for The Cranbury School also requires you to be the Superintendent of Schools (since we have only one). This extra work load, as i understand it, is also one of the reasons Mr. Haney quit, and he did take a position with a lower salary. School Board you can correct me if I am wrong.

Derek Jeter is looking for a 3 year contract. Has the BOE considered him for the job ? After all, we should spare no expense for the education of our children.
