Because we are losing our downtown. Businesses are finding it hard to stay there. Perhaps soon we will just become part of subburbia, with no reason to be in the heart of our community. Having a thriving, vital public library in the downtown is important.

Parking is what is needed for downtown not a library

Seems to me that building another structure and impairing our precious "Field of Dreams' scenic vista is sacrilegious. One thing that must be brought into the equation is that all of these projects have costs to the taxpayers in perpetuity. Even if the structure or any field or project is "free" there are the"Other Costs". For example: if you look at the mostly unused bulletin board in front of the municipal building, that was a Boy Scout project. That Eagle Scout Project was donated to the township, when it self destructed it cost a couple thousand of our taxpayers dollars to build a new one to replace the donation! That project will cost us a bundle for years to come. There really needs to be a true cost analysis prior to embarking on any of these projects.

One must have a reason to park. I guess you can go in cirucles on this one.

So you really believe simply added another building, not on Main Street itself but simply on the opposite site of the school parking as the current library a few hundred feet from it makes the difference between a thriving downtown business district or not?

Do you have anything other than your instinct or theory to go on because that seems like a really big assumption and leap of faith.

I still don't understand your logic. You actually believe giving the library its own building on the other side of the school parking lot from the shared one will dramatically increase traffic to it and that this in term will cause more people to shop Main Street? And since we're not increasing the operating costs of the library supposedly, the only difference is it has its own building?

You may want to relax a little on the Kool-Aid.

How did Princeton come up with 18 million to redue their library.
It's breathtakingly beautiful, but, do we really need one that badly?
I guess if they can raise the money, fine, but, thats an awful lot of bake sales!!!!!!
