Mayor Stout stated at the Nov 8, 2010 township committee meeting that the costs to install a well for the ballfield expect to be $100,000. and Mr. Tanner the engineer said the costs to his firm would be approximately $24,000. The administrator said we spent $7,000. to water the field this year. How many of these luxuries can we afford? It seems that there should be a strict formula to recover these costs from the users and not the taxpaying public.

So the well has an 18 year return on investment, and that assumes the equipment lasts that long without needing replacement or support. That is an extremely long ROI.

The money for the well was already paid to the town through the county. The TC is now in the process of implementing it. Instead of bashing people, why not attend a meeting and understand the facts? There are plenty of issues to cite regarding the ball field. The well though is not one of them.

The other option without a well I understand it is to pay American water for the service and that was around 7-8,000 a year.

sounds like american water is cheaper and we would not be stuck with maintenance costs that we will have on the well.

Amercian water won't be cheaper and over the long run. As they will increase their rates over the next 20 years. The money is already in the township account and can't be used for paying the American water bill.

The cheapest alternative would be rain!
How could it cost 7k to water a stupid field?
Especially, a field that nobody plays on.

"if you build it, they will avoid it".

Middlesex County has amazing parks and recreations facilities all over the place. I'm glad the county is "wasting" some of our money on us this time around. Maybe they could waste some of money connecting Cranbury to the Middlesex and Mercer trail systems so people could run and bike safely to neighboring towns.

The ballfield was already started and the county gave us additional funds to complete it. The money so far has bought bleachers, allowed the town to finish the construction and now install a well so we don't have to pay irrigation costs (yes considering the cost of sod and the field it has to be maintained). So that said the TC had two choices walk away from a project that was already costing us thousands and was near completion or accept the county money, complete the project and be done with the field.

While I don't think the ballfield is worthwhile, I am glad the TC got some money from the county so we did not have to use our local tax dollars. And yes, the county tax dollars are my money, but if it didn't go to Cranbury I am sure some other town would have gotten it.

I beleive the well will be used to water the soccer fields. I think the baseball field has a seperate water source. When the baseball field was built, a water line was suppose to extend to the soccer fields but was not.
