After reading this, I don't understand the concern of my neighbors in Shadow Oaks. I was told this past weekend that the easements were to be created as opposed to existing in Shadow Oaks and that the town was putting in parks and developing the land.

The recommendation above is, " Rather, from the Subcommittee’s inspection of the property and associated easements, as well as consideration of public comments and other input, it is believed
this property is best left in an unimproved or natural state and managed as a resource for the local community. We believe the easements should be marked, but it is not anticipated or intended that the easements will be as well used as the West or Rheinhart properties"

So if the property is left as is I don't think this is a concern.

why do we need to mark the easements?

Some of the information given to you does seem in error. The easements are existing, and have been in place since the development was built. There seems to be no intent to build a park or anything similar, it is too wet, etc.

Outlining where the easements are makes some sense from the standpoint of keeping people off of residents' private property if they want to go to the river.

That is actually the arguement some make who oppose it. However, if people saw kids with beer walking through their yard wouldn't they be alert and call the police? In terms of the other stuff we don't have the issue with the west property which is even more secluded as there is no housing development around it where as the shadow oaks area is surrounded on both sides by development.

many of us that really live in shadow oaks have signed a petition to stop the marking of the easements including everyone who lives next to and adjacent to the easements.

This is the difficulty- Change.

When the development was put in they created easements so people could go back there. If that was not intended and rather it was to be preserved for those who live in front of the property then the easements would not have been created.

Then people forgot, didn't where to use them, didn't know they existed or time just went on and it became private back yard land.

Now, someone has said wait a second this land is public and the public should know how to legally enter it since it is tax payer owned.

So that is the problem- Change back to the original premise that people were supposed to be able to get access when people have become accustomed to it not being used.

I am curious if residents who live there have any solution on how to let people know how to access the land other than don't do it.
