Agreed - video rental stores are obsolete. But here is a compromise: A deli/convenience store-type with one of the video rental kiosks that are in most supermarkets now.

And who knows when the building may be sold....nice to think about what would be a good addition to town. What I describe above would make me happy. But similar businesses have been in that location in the past and have not worked well financially.

This is the type of deli I was referring to ... www.agfinefoods.com. I have a sense that a deli like this would be great on Main Street.

Great Idea. Why don't you buy the building and open your dream deli. Of course the last two deli's in that very building died long sloooooow deaths. And this is just my opinion, the last thing Central Jersey needs is another red sauce Italian joint.

There is an anonymous Italian Deli hater who has always looked for any opportunity to post here. Bent out of shape about something. I learned to tune it out long ago.

BTW, How is Jack's Candy Shack doing? Isn't that the most recent new business to open on Main in a while?

Dear Cranburians, you ought to realize by now that you don't support your local businesses as long as you can buy whatever the product is for one penny cheaper somewhere else. That's why we don't have a deli, pharmacy, or hardware store any more.

In the time it takes to find parking on Main Street, you could drive to Plainsboro and visit this deli. I'm just kidding about the parking on Main Street part...but why don't you just drive to Plainsboro if you are interested in something like that?

It is hard to start any type of new business - esp. a small business. Even SuperFresh which has been around for a long time, is closing in East Windsor.... Sad

I agree, there is no draw to downtown. I'd rather drive to Monroe or East Windsor to purchase my goods. Even something small like a cup of coffee.

Why would anyone ever want to go to Monroe?

Cranbury has a different issue then other towns, the downtown is sooooo close to a busy highway. And any good business person would rather open shop on a heavy traffic road like RT130, then intown. What does work well in a town like cranbury is FOOOD, that is the only exception, people are willing to get off the beaten path for a good meal. But even then most chains will still only open up on busy roads like RT130. Now the recent rezoning of commercial on South Main street seems silly to me, trying to drive business off of RT130 and bring traffic through town just wont work from a business standpoint. I for one dont want to see us build a strip mall at old trenton Rd and South main. That would be bad business and ruin the character of the town area. Sure South Main needs to be improved from what it looks like today, but a strip mall will be an eye sore. If the TC took more care to protect the future growth of the village area they would want to balance the look of the houses on the both sides and extend the village character out to south main, and making a bigger village. House should be build like the ones across the street, and the village would be extended with consistent architecture. Then restaurants could move into those houses as business and demand increases over time in our village naturally, just like restaurants can today in North Main.

So we want to make each house look the same from one end of N. Main to the other on S. Main St. ?
I for one do not like that idea. It sounds like the Hysterical Society is chiming in.
Next thing I read will be how all of the village area will have an automobile ban. Only horses and horse drawn carriages will be allowed in the village area.
Times are a changing and so is the town. There is demand for different types of business on Main Street other than food.
Just my thoughts, please don't kill me with your kind words Laughing

I see your point, a strip mall would be better then nice looking houses on both sides of that street. (NOT)
