Quess when you come from NYC and don't have a car this is great. How could anyone who has lived in Cranbury for sometime not realize parking is a problem. People must go outside and see that it is not great. Question, Why are people allowed to open a business or subdivide there property if they don't provide for parking? It has alway been it is just a few more cars after awhile a few more at a time adds up to alot. But, as the new people say "thats old Cranbury". I'll take old Cranbury any day! |
You don't have to go to NYC to experience real "parking problems." Just go to Princeton. Or Hightstown for that matter. Is that close enough for you? Actually pick just about any real street-based mixed residential and business district, as opposed to strip malls or other places with their own off-street parking lots, and I challenge you to name one with overall easier parking access than Cranbury. Not in your hypothetical time capsule world of the ‘50's but in 21st Century realty (you did notice we're 11 years into the 21st Century didn't you?). I have to park on Main almost every day, sometimes coming and going several times a day. And it's almost always a piece of cake. I would even list easy parking as one of the benefits of the town. Even on major event days like the parade, fireworks or Cranbury Day I can find parking close by and that's unheard of in most towns. I could walk from one end of Main to the other in the time it can take to get parking in Princeton and in Princeton I would probably have to pay for it.
Every time this parking laughing stock comes up and someone challenges the posters to give specific, concrete examples of what they mean by a parking problem, they usually don't. But when people have it has been ridiculous. Walking 100 feet from your car to destination is just not a "problem." Not exactly sure what you expect. But I worry about your health if you consider that a problem. |
you have your head in the sand pal. how long have you lived here? if people are complaining continuously about this, there is obviously something wrong. why are you the only one fighting it? |

I'm not fighting it just commenting on the obvious absurdity. No need to fight the status quo. Someone will need to fight, and fight hard, to get a majority of people in this town to support any money going toward solving this phantom problem. And I couldn’t be the only one because the above was my first post in this topic. I also noticed you evaded answering any of the questions or examples and continued to fail to provide any specific evidence of the problem, as usual for the small minority of people in this town who think parking is a problem. I would also say you’re the one with your head in the sand if you think most people agree with you. The only place people are continuously complaining is this anonymous site which could be as few as one person. One of the great things about a small town is you get to know most of the people and I know a lot more people here who don’t think we have a parking problem than who think we do have a problem. If most people thought it was a problem they would have supported the former Township Committee when it proposed buying the PNC site to preserve control of its parking. But it faced widespread opposition and the Committee repeatedly dropped it rather than put it to referendum knowing it would lose. But if you’re convinced otherwise, go for it. Make a specific proposal for how to solve this problem, ask the Committee to have it priced out then put it to a Township vote. Let’s see if most people agree with your problem and think it’s worth Township money and time to fix. |

I say just put in a three story parking garage ( think the fourth level may violate code) behind the new Library. Charge per hour parking. Just think of all the revenue from the soccer moms alone.
Problem solved, Thank You ! |

Oddly, this is not the most unreasonable suggestion on this board. |

The only parking problem is around the Blue Rooster during lunch. It seems that now they want more parking in town. They should have forseen that when they bought that house. A cafe could have gone a lot of places where there is more parking like where the pnc is or hot wok. Too late now.I see no reason to make parking an issue because of one business. |

The former PNC was being proposed as the new stand alone library parking was NEVER part of the conversation. |

Incorrect. Unofficially the TC originally pursued the PNC site as a possible solution for the stand alone library. But even by the first TC public meeting to discuss it there had already been so much negative backlash that the TC majority in favor of pursuing the site instead said they did not have a single defined purpose for it but rather that it was a unique opportunity with several advantages which included a community center, preservation of the public parking there and, possibly but not definitely, a library. Subsequently the parking issue was raised repeatedly by TC members and supporters of pursuing the site and if you searched this site from the time of those discussions you would see the issue raised here in that context. |

Maplewood needs tho have parking on one side only. By NJ state law a 10 foot wide space down the middle of the road must be maintained for emergency's. If two cars park across from one another call the police, by law they need to ticket and tow the car. |

Sounds like this problem is solvd by asking the local PD to enforce the law then and asking the Township to have some signs installed to inform people of parking on one-side only. |

What law school did you go to? Where is this written in the law? Please link the law. |

Scott is the unofficial parking area for the Blue Rooster already. Lets not encourage more parking there. Its brutal trying to go through it when cars are going both ways. |

Nobody obeys the present yellow no parking lines that are painted on the curbs. The Police don't enforce the parking rules now, what makes anyone think that is likely to change? I'm not sure a ticket writing campaign is necessary but some gentle coaxing to expedite compliance might be nice. |

Who is "encouraging more parking there"? None of the posts seem to suggest that, including the one you replied to. |
