I heard that for the first time anyone can remember no individual has filed for the primary and to run for the TC. Mayor Cody did not file so is not seeking re-election and no Democrat filed to run.

An odd year in Cranbury....

Did't we have a late filing (a write in?) last year on the Dem ticket?

Can't remember the details.

no, but the year prior we did. Last year it was the Republicans who had write ins. However, at no point has there been a primary with no candidates on the ballott. There is always at least one.

Hmmm...interesting. The budgeting process seemed to be contentious. Wonder if that is weighing on potential candidates' minds - existing or new.

It's a big commitment. I respect people that get involved in these positions.

I would not be surprised. There are a lot of major cost issues coming down the pike- Dam, potential land acquisitions, Sewer improvements, COAH, etc...all mentioned at the meetings. I know the TC members were beaten up at the meetings for the tax increase so whoever is on the TC over the next 5 years is in a no win position.

"no win position" true and funny that is rare for this board.

It's a huge commitment and I suspect most people have no clue how much work it is. Besides all the Township Committee meetings they all have to sit on a bunch of other committee's and have many non-public meetings. I suspect they are each in meetings every week, sometimes several.

I'm pretty sure it was the Demos who had write-ins last year, not the Republicans. Dan and Art officially declared by the official date.

So much for the conspiracy tehory that Win Cody's resistance to the tax increase was because he was up for re-election.

I've heard from people that attended several of the budget meetings that the tensions over different views of surplus use, taxes, capital budgets etc have been pretty high. I'm part of a pretty big business - our top dogs don't always (often DON'T) see eye to eye. Thick skin is needed when people dont agree on something or else it is likely that they'll get a nose bent of our joint. As I see it we might not all agree on everything, but we gotta get along as best as possible and move past rough spots. We have enough issues from teh state beating us down. But it will be nice to see soon who wants to join the committee and if the mayor wants to re-up his term. I'm not familiar with the inside doings of either party in town so I am curious to see who steps up.

Good luck to any Republican candidate - it may be hard for them to garner support from the party in this town after Dan and Jay voted for increased taxes.

It was either a little increase now or a HUGE increase in taxes next year or the year after that. Remember how huge the sewer increase was because they waited to raise the rates? I would rather ease into it then have my bill jump up tremendously in one year. I do not blame them, but I guess you want others to blame them, due to some ulterior motive. They were 2 out of the four TC members that voted for it with Win voting against.

WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD WANT TO RUN FOR TOWNSHIP COMMITTEE WHEN THEY KNOW THEY WOULD BE CONSTANTLY FLAMED ON THIS VERY BLOG????

We have become an uncivil society and Cranbury is no different.

I applaud Win for serving, and I respect and understand whatever reason he has for not seeking election.

Until we can treat our local elected officials as the good neighbors they are, we will probably see more of this.

Does that also mean good luck to any democrats that run since Dave and Glen also voted for the tax increase? Will it be hard for a democrat to garner support in this town?

I agree with your first point on who would want to do it.

I'm not convinced this is a degeneration of society from the good 'ole days though. I think the Internet has just made it easier and more public to do what people were doing behind closed doors for a very long time. Just like then the same people posting attachs anonymously here are probably sugary sweet to these same people when they run into them in town or at the school. People haven't changed, just the medium.

It sure would be nice if some senior from Four Seasons who has the time and inclination could run for committee. The concentration of talent and liftime experience from those folks along with a Senior perspective might help to center things a bit.
