Change would not facilitate affordable housing requirements
Monroe and Cranbury officials said they are against proposed legislation that would ban the transfer of affordable housing obligations to other municipalities.
Since it became an option in 1988, both townships have used regional contribution agreements (RCAs) to help meet state-mandated affordable housing requirements.
Officials in both towns say the change would make it difficult for suburban townships to meet their affordable housing requirements, and take much needed money away from urban municipalities that receive money in those arrangements.
