I too would like to thank Dan for having to chime in to clarify the cost. However, the chucklehead that posted $4600, I have a real problem with. Why do you feel the need to post made up bogus information. This kind of deception can really do damage. |

My guess, and perhaps I am giving the poster too much credit, is that they probably heard that somewhere. The rumors don't begin on this site, they find their way here after a lot of old fashioned neighbor-to-neighbor gossip. And like any gossip it is a game of telephone where every retelling is further from the truth and yet harder to distinguish from it. |

I just came across this lengthy thread and I can't fault the cost however I still cant believe our town paid to remove a tree from someones private property when not legally obligated to. What was our town council thinking by doing this? Its costs like this that drive up our taxes unnecessarily and I can't believe the homeowner got away with this. I guess all I need to do is come to a meeting an complain about something I want done or that I don't want to pay for and the town council will just give it to me for free? |

Next time you come across a lengthy thread, read it so you have some idea of the history of what you are talking about. |

I read it and it seems the facts are what the facts are. The tree had fallen on private property and our town paid to have it removed. Waste of money end of story. |

Can I help it if your reading comprehension is minimal? For years the township has planted and taken care of street trees(like the one in question). Due to a lack of understanding of what the county will do, the TC decided to quit taking care of street trees on county roads. Now we have a case where a tree that the township has planted has fallen. It is a complicated issue and you are a very simple person. |

You do realize had this not been on a county rd or had it happened last year then the whole TC would have paid for this removal and this thread would not exist because it would have been normal practice. The TC would remove the tree and not even discuss it. If you really care about costs and not just complaining then tell the TC to stop removing any tree and let the homeowner decide if they want it or not.
I have done that and encourage everyone to as well. If we have 5 trees fall down that is almost 10k the town will spend. |

If you live on a street owned by the town and the tree was classified as a street tree then yes you could ask the town to remove it under the current policy and they would regardless of where the tree landed. |

When will the town be paying to plant a new tree in place of the old tree they paid to have removed? |

According to two TC members and i believe the earlier post by Mr. Taylor as well. The policy was discussed at the end of last year and adopted this year's TC at budget time. |

I hope so. Beautiful, historic, charming Main St would look a lot different if the Township were not actively encouraging shade trees on park strips. |

To each his own... Literally.
Only people who use the school should pay for the school. @ $18,000 per kid, would your taxes go up or down?
What would house be worth if the school was terrible, or even average?
What would your house be worth if people covered their historic houses in vinyl siding, chopped down their trees and paved their front yards?
What would happen to your taxes if all the preserved farmland was sold off to developers for house farms? What would happen to your property value?
You don't get to have it both ways, if you want a good school, charming Main Street and preserved farmland then you have to pay for it if you don't want those things, then why did you move to a community that clearly, collectively, values good schools, a charming Main Street and preserved farmland? |

If you plant it then you have to remove and maintain it. So then people can't complain that Dave, Win and Jay did that in this instance. |
