| I understand the TC will be considering a request to have a menorah by the Christmas Tree at the Dec 12th meeting. If you are interested please come. I think this would be nice to see included. |

My understanding it is a local Rabbi doing this on behalf of some Cranbury residents as he will donate it to the town. Similar to the women's club donating the tree. I know one family who has been here a fairly long time and has asked me to come and support them. that is why I posted here. As I understand some residents oppose it.
To me I think this is the right thing to do and said they have my support. |

| Personally, I don't think it matters if the donor is local or not- what a great idea to show some support to all beliefs. |

Most people would consider a CHRISTMAS tree a Christian symbol. |

| A Christmas Tree is a secular (actually pagan) symbol, originating from celebrations of the Winter Solstice. It doesn't have any real Christian significance. I think a Nativity Scene is in order if they are going to add a Menorah. |

That would be inappropriate and probably illegal.

I appreciate your opinion. I am familiar with the trees origins. However, most Christians and non-Christians consider it a Christian symbol. In fact there is one in my church. I presume there is one in yours also. |

| Thats is what I love about our town. The openess and tolerance of its citizens and the belief that ALL faiths can be embraced without trying to out do each other. Why Cranbury gets the reputation as a place where outsiders are not welcome is beyond me. I am surprised that anyone would be against this. |

Exactly. Which is why most buildings in NY setup a tree and a Menorah in their lobbies during the holiday. And a vast majority of people are fine with that. |

| I thought Cranbury was a historic town? Why now do we need to change? I don't think David Brainerd had a menorah up, but rather a CHRISTMAS tree. As hard as our beautiful quaint little town tries to stay true to it's roots, I ask why now do we need to change? I have nothing against having a menorah in town but I don't think it needs to be in memorial park. Perhaps it would be better displayed in village or Cranbury Millstone park..... |

| My kids always say to me Why isn't their a menorah in our town? I feel a menorah should be in our town. You can place it next to the Christmas Tree on Main Street. I always see Menorahs in West Windsor and in Monroe. When I see a Christmas Tree, it represent a Christian Symbol. |
