See the Troll realized it was losing momentum and tried to up the stakes with a comment obviously designed to be provacative about merging towns. Please people, don't take the bait. Don't take the post seriously because they are only laughing at you if you do. Just move along.

The dam has nothing to do with the police.

12 officers over 90k
2 officer over 100k

I am sure this is before Over Time.

My quick calculations shows this to be 1.3 million dollars before OT, pension, health and any other perks. Exactly how much exactly are the police costing us? I would guess its well over 2.0 million a year.

Is nobody shocked that we pay our police officers salaries like these? Plus benefits, plus tremendous pensions.

This is too much. How much with OT?

I hope the outrageous police salary will be looked into this year by our council before they send us our tax bill

Fire all the bums and hire security guards. I don't need no cops coming to my house again. They cause nothing but trouble. I'll handle anyone coming into my house with smith and Wesson.

To clarify I will handle robbers coming into my house. I don't need any more problems.

Any of us that are involved in town and that have lived hear more than 10 or 15 years know we have more than enough police and the police are a large expense to the town. We all know our taxes went up last year and I have heard from a few committee members we should expect our taxes to go up again. It is now up to the people we elected to make sure they find ways to reduce this cost.

You have made your case in a clear and reasonable way (as opposed to the lunatic that keeps piping in with one outrageous post after another). People may disagree with your analysis, but it is a valid point of view. This is the kind of question the TC will have to weigh when they make budget decisions.

I think the best way for you to accomplish your goal is to go to the next TC meeting and make your opinion known in the same reasonable way you made it here.

The people that are living in town 10-15yrs know the police are an expense. Really. An expense is building a barn to house vehicles at dpw. An expense is giving the first aid squad $70K a year when they are private and charging for service. An expense is giving the fire company $100K+ to purchase a brush truck. When was the last time there was a brush fire that required fancy complicated equipment. But I can bet some of you 10-15yr homeowners remember when you needed the police.

Your taxes went up last year and maybe this year also. But the town has not hired a police officer in over 4 years, yet 4 have retired. The town has been saving money on police service for 4 years, but the taxes are still going up. Hmmm. Maybe the police aren't the problem.

Police officers have a UNION CONTRACT that gives them each more and more each year. Which is an expense that never ends unlike the onetime price of a brush truck.

The squad charges insurance only. If a resident does not have insurance you will not be billed. The Twp money is a fraction of what it costs to operate. If the squad closed the town would need to contract and based on other expenses in towns it wi be more than 70k.

The brush truck is almost 60 years old. The fire company also fund raised and contributed to the costs. They also paid for the 500k water tanker that was needed and the town paid nothing for it. The town to save 500k offered to buy the tanker and it was not even paid for 100% in the end. However, as a tax payer I am happy to help.

How many other boards or departments fund raise to help reduce costs? If the fire company quit the town would need a fire district. So I for one would gladly pay for a trick to avoid paid fire fighters.

The police contract is for 5 years and is calling for minimal increases.

You want to reduce costs the talk to the county and state. Most of the Twp expenses are beyond the town's control. Christie and all governors push mandates down to reduce state expenses. Push them to stop the mandates and watch the bills drop.
