The township has problems enforcing the EXISTING code referenced in this thread, let alone proposing a new set of rules. Besides, to fairly enforce this proposed maintenance code EVERY property would need to be inspected at least once a year. Sounds like a new full time position which is an extra expense we don't need. Perhaps owners of VACANT properties should be required to file a maintenance plan with the township. As a long term resident(over 30 years) Cranbury has gotten to where we are today just fine without excessive rules. We want to keep this town as a friendly and civil place to live and raise our families. People who need more rules should move to one of the retirement communities. |
Someone is off their meds again. |

Bad idea, waste of time. What is more important right now is when are the brush and leaf piles going to be removed from Main St and the rest of town. All the surrounding towns look good now, but Cranbury is a mess! |

Yes the town is a mess with debris. Today going down main street my car was scratched up by the branches sticking out in the driving lane. The folks have placed the branches and tree parts in every concievable incorrect direction making it a much more difficult process for public works. By the way has anyone seen public works other than at the deli in East Windsor? |

Yes I have seen public works they've been chipping their butts off in shadow oaks for the last week. It sounds like the last post must be a Main st. Resident, everything doesn't revolve around main st you can wait your turn just like the rest of us.Thank you public works your doing a wonderful job cleaning up all the brush especially since everybody is just throwing it out at the street and not stacking it correctly. |

Agreed public works is doing a great job (from a down-towner). One recommendation though would be to now prioritize the areas where lines were down and have been fixed as these areas were understandably passed over previously and are now in some cases the worst traffic blockers. |

I guess now Public Works can't eat lunch. They have to chip branches every second that they are on the clock. It is comments like this that make me angry. These guys work hard all year round and that comment is the thanks they get from you.
I hope your little dig on them makes you feel better about yourself.
Since the hurricane and snow storm they have been working extra hard. Please keep your comments to yourself. |

Maybe we can all help. If you have branches out place them the correct way. This greatly increases the speed of chipping. If we do this then chipping goes faster and we get OUR town cleaned up faster. We're all in this together. |

I spoke with Jerry from public works today and he said that there are 3 problems with what residents are doing with their brush piles, which slows the job down. 1- the piles aren't stacked correctly 2- residents are throwing logs into the piles and now they have to roll the logs off( they should be stacked seperatlel) 3- residents are now putting their leaves on the piles and they have to dig through leaves to get to the brush. He explained that they at times spend about 2hrs just in front of one house because of these reasons. |

How about just not wasting time and effort on those inconsiderate folks who are too lazy to follow the chipping rules. Just leave those piles and move on. The piles are a mess and the good fellows trying to be accomodating are being abused by their good will efforts to please the ungrateful public. |

I think they should start doing this to speed up the process. |

This is the time that the Committee needs to take a position and get this straightened out so public works can do their job without being hampered by those who can't follow the rules. As I see it, don't fine anyone, just don't pick up or chip the bad piles. They will need to pay a private contractor to clean up the mess they have made for public works. I hope the committee has the guts to help out public works and the rest of the citizens who are following the rules. |

I agree that DPW should prioritize Main Street. Brush piles are taking up parking spots in the Business District and Main Street is much more heavily traveled then Shadow Oaks. |

Shadow Oaks is easier to handle because of much less passing traffic.
Working on Main St. will likely require blocking traffic and police's presence to direct traffic. |

D. Brush collection requirements:
(1) Brush shall be chipped. Placement of brush shall be allowed no sooner than the weekend preceding the third Wednesday of each month, or as otherwise scheduled or announced. It is recommended residents notify the Public Works Department of requests for chipping services by the Monday before the third Wednesday of the month.
(2) Materials should be tree branches and shrub branches preferably longer than three feet. All materials should be stacked at the curb or as near to the curb as possible, along the curb abutting the property owner's lot. Hedge clippings, twigs, small branches less than three feet (but not less than one foot) must be bundled with string only (no wire) and must be free of foreign debris, such as stones, dirt, metal, sweepings and rakings. No lumber, construction material, roots, stumps, mulch, sand, landscape construction material and debris, or soil left at the curb will be collected. All material to be chipped should be placed at the curb and no closer than ten feet to a storm drain inlet by 7:00 a.m. on the collection day. Any material placed at the curb that does not conform with these specifications will not be picked up by the Township.
(3) Brush and limbs placed at the curb must be aligned parallel and facing with the flow of traffic.
E. Leaf or brush collection may not occur in the event of Office of Emergency Management calls, natural disasters, vehicle blockages, acts of nature (such as snowfall) or other unforeseen occurrences. |
