Typical waste of taxpayer monies, I saw Mayor Goetz and Lt. dillane have their meet the public event at Teddys this morning and the rest of the police dept there for over 1 1/2 hrs eating breakfast. I would prefer to see the officers be proactive and be out patroling the streets and not just sitting around waiting for a call, I know they have radios and respond if need be but shouldn't they be trying to prevent instead of wait for? How can the Mayor and the rest of the commitee be okay with this daily occurence. If there isn't any patrolling happening then we should just do a shared service for responding to calls. |

I agree with shared services to save taxpayers money. It just shows a lack of respect for their boss most people would hide their goofing off from their bosses!! |

I am curious to know how you know that more police officers were not out on the road? |

How much was wasted? Looking at full-time employment of over 2000 hours per year, you complain about 90 minutes?
Is it not a good idea to have a place where the public can meet and mingle with our politicians and police officers in a setting where they can get to know one another?
This is not waste to me. This is valuable networking within the community. |

It's sound as though some of these responses are police officers. 3 police offers x 90 minutes Per day each x 365 days a year = alot of waste. |

Do you ever surf the internet at work, take a break, go to lunch, etc? If not, you have a case. If you are like 100% of us who work then there is no merit.
I was at Teddy's not to long ago when emergency occurred and a fast response occurred because of the location.
As a resident I like seeing our officers at Teddy's. It gets them involved in the community, us a chance to interact and supports a local business.
In terms of shared service. Do you think we'd ever see a patrol in Cranbury from S. Brunswick or Plainsboro? They'd take our money and laugh all the way to the bank.
I'm just tired of the same posters trying to get people riled up on the same topic that occurs every few months. |

I never see any patroling where I live ( obviously not main st)as for the fast emergency response, it must of happened near Teddys. Wouldn't all emergency have a fast response if the police were patolling all of Cranbury and not just main street. |

Why does it always come down to Main St? In shadow oaks yesterday I saw an officer talking to a group of kids.
If you really feel our police offer no value come to a TC meeting. Mr. Johnson tried to cut officers this year and I understand the TC meeting was packed with residents opposed.
Seems those wanting to complain are in the minority.
You do realize by the way that schools and safety are what keep our home values high and our town attractive to buyers. |

I agree with the poster who says they rarely ever see a police car in their neighborhood. In our neighborhood I can guarantee we see more Plainsboro police cars just passing through than we ever see from Cranbury. To top it off when one of the alarms go off in the neighborhood it takes at least 15 minutes for a response from out police dept. I'm not so sure we are well protected. |

What type of alarms go off in your neighborhood? Do your homes wherever you live have sirens? |

With 3 officers I would guess it depends when the alarm goes off, where the officers are and what they are doing. Cranbury is 12 sq miles.
If this is factual, I highly suggested you raise the concern with the TC or go to Teddy's when the Mayor and Chief are in and ask them to address it.
I know the Shady Brook development sees more Plainsboro officers as the road (forget the name) past Simonsons and Stults is a main connector Plainsboro.
Similarly I imagine half acre sees a lot of Monroe cars. |

I am going to be a troll now....
I guess the 90 minutes that officers don't have to patrol the roads would bring the response time down significantly?
Does the poster that complains about the lack of police presence in his/her neighborhood offers a solution? How many of those alarms go off were real emergencies? Are our officers called to his neighborhood for emergencies that are not emergencies? |

According to App.com the average officer makes $95,000 per year assuming they work 40 hrs per week. 95,000 ~ 2080 = 45.67 per hr. X1 1/2 hrs =68.50 x 3 officers=$205.50 per day wasted 205.50x 365 days =$75,000 per yr wasted or 1 1/2 hrs day x 3 officers = 4 1/2 hrs day x 365 =1,642 hrs year. If 1 officers works 2080 hrs yr. 1,642 hrs wasted~ 2080 hrs year = 79% of his time would have been sitting at Teddys. |

Your math is flawed. First as the TC has pointed out they work 12 hour shifts. So that means they are on duty for just over 3 days before going off.
Let's assume 3.5 days (increases the number). 3.5 times 1.5 (90 minutes) though I doubt the 90 minute number. Even so that is 5.25 hours a week. Times 52 weeks is 273 a year or 13%. If they take an hour break as is more realistic then we're talking 3.5 times 52 weeks or 182 hours 9% of the time. That assumes no sick day or vacation.
At worst for you they are spending 13% of their personal (lunch or breakfast) time in town not Monroe or Plainsboro. Spending money at our businesses instead of bringing lunch or breakfast or at delis or restaurants in other towns. Spending time speaking with our residents. Spending time being visible in town. All done during their lunch hour.
In my view our businesses would be rich if every resident and worker in Cranbury adopted this philosophy.
Now, you may not see an officer. I don't see many myself. However, to me that is good. I lived in places where I regularly saw officers and it was never good. |

This is getting funny. Fuzzy math
The event at Teddy's that started the discussion turns now into a daily occurrence where all police officers hang out @ Teddy's for 90 minutes daily. |
