Yes, you are lost. Very lost. school kids are using library after school for "free babysitting." Not the taxpayers job or duty to supply that. Library never has school age kids there unless after school or rec camp. Not the purpose of a library. That is what day care is for.

The Athletic fields are already there. Why add another cost to the town? While they require care, the costs of cutting are minuscule in comparison to the Taj Mahal you want to put there. You mention water, we get that from rain, the stuff that falls from the sky. We don't get roofs, windows, staffing, roads, books, and other materials from mother nature. Sorry to say, money does not grow on trees.

We already have a library. This is the digital age, brick and mortar is a thing of the past. Welcome to the 21st century.

ummmm........the current library actually belongs to the school. As far as babysitting goes, maybe anyone who doesnt go to the grade school should be banned from using the facility?

This is a bad idea. The Library Board has the option to return excess funds to the Township Committee but have decided to create their own private fiefdom. This squandering of the taxpayers dollars is nothing short of stealing from others to benefit a few. Shame Shame Shame!!!

Why not use one of the empty buildings on Main St as the "new" library? The odd fellows building seems like the perfect place and it's been on the market for a very long time.

That's a good point. If the library wanted the PNC building why not odd fellows. Considering it used to be a building for public events it seems it would be a historic return.

Instead of a second library on the same site, let's use an existing site. The pool club is sitting idle and there is plenty of suitable land and parking.

Are you kidding? Can't tell.

Township doesn't own that site. So first you'd have to buy it, then completely demo it -- not cheap -- build a new structure, and address the fact that it's in a flood zone. And that's assuming you could get the location re-zoned for municipal use. It would cost substantially more than the current plan which uses space owned by the Township, identified in the master plan for that purpose, walking distance to downtown and with existing parking infrastructure, though it justifies adding more.

Looking at the Odd Fellows building is not a bad idea. There is a parking problem and my guess is it's probably not structurally designed to handle the collective weight of the books right now, but certainly they should look at it. They do seem attached to their shiny new building.

The perfect location would be the current Post Office which is severely underutilized especially since it's just a storefront now and not where the mail is sorted or processed for delivery. And there's a decent chance the Postal Service will close it in some future cost saving measure as they have for others. It's big enough, in a perfect location on Main Street including with a nice public lawn in front, it's got parking (which could double as additional public spaces for Main Street uses) and it's already designed to handle heavy weight. It even looks like a library a quaint village library from the front once you change the signage. It's actually a better location than the proposed one.

Using the PO for the new library is a great idea, grass out front for some public downtown space, parking and lots of space. If the PO wanted a retail presence, they could either find another store front or even keep some of their space as they currently use very little. we should not wait to the PO closes to start this discussion. also, odd fellows per the sign is 4500 sf, which is a good size for library and sweetwater has designated parking for the Town. either way, having a service like a library on main street will help keep our downtown active, vibrant and our spaces occupied!!

Maybe the PO can move into the old Blue Rooster space.

Or maybe the post office can move into the Odds Fellow Hall where it was located several decades ago.

I think it would be good to have the police station in the center of town. That could be a good use of the post office building.

Although it may not be part of the core purpose of public libraries, these institutions have provided a relatively safe haven for middle and upper grade school children for many decades. Parents have come to rely on this, perhaps a bit too heavily at times. Our library views the kids as a nuisance and they believe that spending millions of dollars to move the library across the parking lot will cut down on the number of annoying kids hanging around the library, in particular immediately after school. This is reason #87 to support the new library... All in favor, write a check!

Kids will cross the road to get to the new building. Free day care is free day care. Now it will just be hazardous for the children trying to avoid cars and buses as they race across the road during inclement weather conditions. Accidents will be commonplace as parents are picking up students, buses are picking up students and teachers are leaving school property. Glad we have a first rate hospital nearby. We will need it.

Put in a couple of speedbumps and teach the kids and parent drivers to be responsible. How did we survive the 70's and 80's as kids?

Can't put in speed bumps. The buses can't handle them.
