Dam fence

There were updates regarding the permanent lake fence. The first side was put in and the contractors started from opposite ends and the middle looks ridiculous. It clearly doesn't match up. From calls to the town office it seems this was a surprise to Dave and from posts of those who spoke to the contractors, they were just following the plans. this is clearly a mistake. What's the plan here, because it looks ridiculous. Do I need to attend a TC meeting or can the trend of updates on this board be continued now that there is some explaining to do.

It appears that those responsible for oversight of the bridge construction also decided to install the east side even though the concrete is peeling off and now with the rails installed you can be sure that it won't get fixed. So much for good communication with the public and watching out to protect our hard earned tax dollars.

To provide an update, as Mr. Cook stated prior. "In response made by a concerned resident, I want to be clear as to how the County Engineering firm and the General contractor handles the pouring and curing of concrete on the bridge/dam project. There are different mixes of concrete depending on the environment and temperature at the time of application.

Each application of concrete has core samples taken by the engineering firm to confirm quality and stability when poured and cured. In some cases you will have surface roughness that can emerge before a final coat or finishing of the surface takes place.

These surfaces will be re-inspected and evaluated by the engineering firm as we get closer to project completion. "

The installation of the fence does not stop any corrective action from happening (if required). Installing the railing certainly improves the look and perhaps will allow ice skating this year.

In terms of the fence that is not connected, Mr. Cook is working on this with the engineer and contractor.

I assure you every committee member is paying careful attention to the costs and design aspects of this project and when issues arise Mr. Cook is the first to get involved and be on the phone to the appropriate parties. After work I try to go to the Dam when projects are being done to see what is happening. It is not uncommon that when I see an issue such as the railing and speak with Dave that he's already aware and has been in contact with the appropriate people.

Concerned Residents,
In response to the bridge railing and the concrete cap in which its installed . I would like to inform you of the following information.

1. Regarding the hair line cracks and other surface issues concerning concrete on the bridge. The Structural Engineer from the firm hired by the County for this project (Najarian Associates) came out to inspect the integrity, strength and quality of the concrete. It was determined that there are no issues from a structural standpoint and that the hair line cracks and small degree of flaking is normal and is representative of conditions before a final polishing and water ceiling of the surface is done. The finishing process occurs after installation of the railing since scuffing and chipping may occur to the concrete during railing installation.

2. Regarding the railing on the west side of the bridge. I have had several meetings with the contractors and manufacturers regarding the gap between the two rails. They were aware of the issue as I am and others that the current configuration was not on the original plans and will have to be corrected. This correction will occur in the next week or so. In the Spring final touch up to the railing paint and other detailing will be done as weather and temperature permits.

My thanks to Mayor Taylor for his comments while I compiled the information and updates from the appropriate parties involved. I apologize for the delay for additional information. But having the correct information as opposed to making half informed comments is always more helpful.

I would like to add Dave has done a really good job of taking the lead on this for Cranbury and has spent numerous hours, days, weeks, months of time making every effort this project is successful. As I look at this project, overall we are within budget and have only had a handful of issues to address which in the big picture of a project of this size and scale is rather amazing. I can assure you that Dave and the rest of us on the committee welcome your feedback and will make every effort to address any and all concerns and issues raised.

To add I personally find it helpful if we can put a name to issues raised so we can then follow up directly with that person as well as gain deeper perspective of the issues raised so we can make sure we are not missing anything. Thus I encourage anyone who has a concern with anything related to this project to contact Dave or any one of us on the Township Committee you are most comfortable with directly.

Additionally I would like to thank everyone for their continued support as in the end I believe we all are working together in the best interest of our community.

Thanks Dave and Jay- that info answers my question and relieves my concern about the railings. Your efforts are appreciated. Dan- I have no deeper perspective to provide, just concerned about this issue and wanted the quick info and public sharing that we all (TC and anon piblic) use this board for. Saw that the rails have been installed on the East side of the lake. Will the Brainerd Lake arched sign go back up? I believe it was a gift for the tercentennial.

I was a skeptic at first, but must admit great job to all involved in the project!
Also curious about the sign the previous poster metnioned.
Great to have the improvements made with retaining our history.
