The Township of Cranbury Recycling Department is pleased to announce that the Recycle Shed will begin collecting e-waste Friday, April 3, 2015 between the hours of 9am – 12pm at the DPW yard. The normal collection schedule will be the first Friday each month (unless a legal holiday-the shed will open on the second Friday).
Please take note of the comprehensive list of acceptable and non-acceptable items. Kindly abide by this list (see the pdf file below). A fine will be assessed by the vendor to Cranbury for any non-acceptable items mixed in with the load.

Should you have any questions about whether or not an item is acceptable, please call 609-395-0900 *229.
The Recycling Department appreciates the guidance and assistance of the Middlesex County Division of Solid Waste Management searching for a vendor who would responsibly recycle acceptable e-waste. In addition, a big thank you to all Cranbury residents for your patience and cooperation during this time. Keep up the good recycling habits! |

If residents are not yet aware starting the April 6th pickup for recycling you do not need to separate paper and plastic. The county is employing a single container system where materials can be co-mingled. The hope is this will make it easier to recycle. |

How much does this cost the town? Middlesex county has its own recycling center. |

Middlesex county does the town's recycling as part of a county wide agreement.
If you're suggesting people drive to a middlesex county recycling center I think you'd see a large decrease in recycling. There may also be state mandates that towns offer recycling. |

Will we start being able to use larger collection bins for the co-mingled recycling? Many towns that do this have trash-can size bins they use, so you can have one bin with a hinged cover instead of 3-5 small bins. |

1) we are checking to see if the county will be providing one large container and replacing the two we have now. We do not yet have that information.
2) all material plastic, metal and paper can be placed in one container. |

I spoke this morning with Middlesex county.
They will not be distributing new containers as you can use the current containers and mix the material. We discussed options for those that would like to use bigger containers. For those indviduals, if you'd like you can purchase up to a 32 gallon trash can from a local home center and use this for recycling.
I am told the county will pickup the material in the can if it is put out on recycling day (ideally next to another recycling container and/or mark it recycling).
They recommend you use the recycling barrel (one that used to be for plastic and glass) first before going to a different container so when the blue barrel is next to the other container the crew will clearly stop and see it's not trash.
They require that if you use an alternative container for recycling that it not have a lid. This is so the crew can see it's not trash as some towns have recycling and trash pick up on the same day. |
