Glad to see the township working with the NJDEP on a Deer Management Plan. Before anyone complains about hunting, I am not a hunter and could not see myself hunting. However, I also believe that the DEP has the experience to know what works, what is humane and cares about the environment so am glad the Township is following their recommendation.

I’ve heard great things about this deer management plan. It’s wonderful for regular deers to have the opportunity to work themselves up to a management position. I’ve heard this program even pays for deer to go back to school at night which is not only a productive use of their time, but also, it keeps them out of the roadways at night. Now if only AOC could get this implemented at the national level

AOC? She’ll never get anything implemented. She is no more than a waste of space. The best thing she could do for this country is shut her big mouth.

These properties are way too small to be worthwhile for a hunter to waste the time getting all approvals (and a lottery) to hunt. This is a total wast of time at the township level. Farmers have the largest properties and are permitted to kill deer, coyotes and any wildlife that threatens their crops. Welcome to the GARDEN STATE !!!! Farming is more important than the pesky animals that are quickly loosing their predators.

It's great that the town wants to make an effort to control the deer population but they would be better off working with local farmers to try and help them out. Animals mostly stroll to another property to get away from hunters. Best odds to reduce the population is to eliminate them at the larger properties where they feed on tasty crops.

Stated like a non farmer. There is hunting in the larger farms. The township was asked by the farmers who lease the land to allow hunting. There used to be hunting on the Fischer property until someone complained and Mickey was told to stop it. The deer then ate enough of the crop the last few years where he lost money. So he asked the town to allow hunting again. So at least the Fischer property will be hunted.

LOL. I am sure that lottery will be rigged

You really do like complaining about anything the Tc does don’t you. Since the lottery has to be public with a public drawing and is run with the DEP and town you would need multiple people
To work together to rig it. Do you think the town or DEP care whose name they pull out?

Glad the town is doing this, but this is a prime example of overdevelopment.

What is the solution? The town has the highest or close to the amount of unbuildable and preserved land as a percent of total land in the state. The town can't prevent someone from building on their land. So what is the solution? I want more farmland too, but the town can't buy everything even if they wanted too because the land owners want to make money too.

After reading these posts, I realize, in fact, that this is not a program
that is intended to promote deers to management employment positions. Rather, this is a plan to kill deer. Shocking turn of events for me.

Imagine how the deer feel after all the time fawning over their resumes and putting all those bucks into new suits just to find out they never had a shot!

Here are some interesting facts from a recent Farm Bureau Newsletter----- Resident Hunting licenses for 1970 was 171,959 in 1980 125,148 ---- 2018 total licenses 28,770!!! That reduction accounts for the inability to stay ahead of the growing deer population. The cost of the licenses along with the restricted days allowed for hunting have greatly reduced the number of hunters. One additional concern is that throughout New Jersey the regeneration in our forests has been severely hampered by deer browsing the new growth so regeneration of our forests is at a standstill and actually is moving backwards. The deer hunting season should be greatly increased and the Buck and Doe limits need to be increased as well.

You must not know much about hunting!you can already hunt sept-feb. also you can harvest unlimited does and 6 bucks total(bow, muzzleloader, and shotgun season). Also there more then 28,770 hunting license bought in the state of NJ more like 75,000 NJ hunters not including out of state licenses. But yes your correct on the land, less land to hunt. And less land for deer thats a bad recipe for unhealthy deer herds.

Just to add to that point. Homeowners plant non-native species in their yards which attract deer. Who would not want to enjoy a free steak dinner every night. The problem is the foliage dies over the winter and the deer are stuck with finding evergreens like arborvitae and other plants. Not only does that harm landscapes, but because the food is not plentiful it creates an environment for starvation.
