It seems the case for building a new library building has always rested on the notion that we need a place for seniors to meet, assemble, spin yarns and talk about books away from the noisy and annoying children. New social norms call into question the wisdom of spending millions of dollars to build a place that is likely to be used sparingly in a post Covid world. If the responsible thing to do is to maintain social distancing for people over 70 years old for several years to come, then what is the wisdom of building a standalone library and community center? Perhaps the community would be better served by having the librarians operate a walk up window out of the current location. |

But think how nice it would be to have a new bigger Library so it could be CLOSED due to social distancing, but all the taxpayers can look in the window. And we would have to increase the pay rate for all the Library employees while they work from home, since after all it is a bigger CLOSED building. |

You must really be fun at parties you and the other poster (if separate) always have a complaint to issue. |

The first two posters have valid points regarding the misguided library. There have been a number of driving forces for the library and because this has gone on soo long those forces are moving or passing away and some others are going to fall into that category soon. We do not need that library. Most 8 year olds have more information on their phone than we have in the library. It will be a boon to a few who will reap a financial benefit from retaining employment, consulting services and construction services.
We as taxpayers will reap another money sucking asset just like some previous administrations have given us. When you look at the Pari Staves the David Stouts the Richard Stannards and Michael Mayses, they are all gone but left us with their pet projects that are monuments to their self fulfilling tenure in Cranbury. Think of the tens of thousands it costs us taxpayers just to keep up the Pari Stave "Field of Dreams" baseball field nightmare. That amount of money will be insignificant compared to the library costs that we will have in perpetuity. Now that a number of the pro library folks have been elected they really don't need to suck up to the pro library voters that are a minority. If the library was put on a ballot it would fail. It is time for the administration to take a second look and see if they should reconsider moving forward on this misguided project. |

your correct, they do sound like complaints, but they are really deliberate sarcastic barbs directed at Poor management caused by this ridiculous rotating Mayor system and Overpaid management, caused by the abuse of the New Jersey employee pension system on the taxpayers. Check the NJ credit rating, one of 3 highest debt ridden States in the Country due to the abusive State Pension System. Get the signs correct at Recycle, not hard, Stop the speeding through our town, extra Police hired last year, but still a raceway on Main St and Maplewood Ave. And still talking about building an outdated brick and mortar library while the TC is holding Virtual meetings on line. By the time our Rotating Mayor figures out what the heck is going on, its time for a New Mayor. Antiquated system and it shows. |

The library continues to miss the unique* opportunity to offer curbside services so patrons can access the stockpile of material.
*Small library with a small patrons base. |

*Small library with a small patrons base. |
1 The tech component for patrons to reserve materials is already in place.
2 Establish cleaning protocol for materials.
OR quarantine returned material for 5 days (see CDC)
3 Offer limited daytime operating hours.
4 Schedule EXTERIOR and INDIVIDUAL pick up of materials.
5 Temporarily adjust the maximum number of items loaned per patron.
6 Temporarily adjust loan periods.
7 Loan out ChromeBooks.
Be Best! |

To 3792 Above
8. Close the Library altogether and make use of the existing building as a Senior center, put in 8 track tapes and VHS movies. Establish an on-line library.
Most colleges no longer have a Bookstore, all Textbooks are sold on line. College students don't carry books around , they go on line for their courses. |

Every year, both parties struggle to find people to run. It seems you have all the answers so I look forward to your running for TC. |

Too liberal of a Town too Liberal of a State. Fiscal conservatism usually receives weak rebuttals such as 'you have all the answers " and " why don't you run for office" Ponder this, Democratic States such as Illinois and New Jersey are on the verge of bankruptcy due to their Entitlements such as Pensions. Even those on NJ pensions move to Florida to avoid the ridiculous property taxes and income taxes here in NJ. ( they still get their pensions sent to them down there you know)
So those in charge of the State ( the same folks who will in the future receive these NJ pensions) know it is on the verge of insolvency and their dream pensions might disappear. Notice that all the Democratic run near bankrupt States are those enforcing Lockdowns due to Coronavirus, why? To push the Federal Government into a Financial Bailout out with a big check and preserve those pensions. All at the expense of Business owners , the Self -employed and those in private industry. Follow the Money . |

Bla bla bla. a Republican was elected this year to TC, Dan was elected multiple times and the TC was Rep controlled about 9 years ago. But again you ignore facts for your own trolling. So if you are going to say the town is mismanaged, then run for TC. Illinois and state govt has nothing to do with Cranbury and your complaints about our town.
I am not sure how much more fiscally conservative the TC could be with tax cuts and a AAA bond rating. But I look forward to your campaign. |

I think the idea of reserving books online and picking up at a walk up window would be a good way for the library to serve the community during these unusual times.
I also see people doing puzzle exchanges, and perhaps that is something the library could help facilitate. |

I imagine the school will need the library space to accommodate new distancing requirements in the Fall. This could result in the library being closed during school hours, as it was years ago. A walk up window might be a good way to continue providing access to materials during school hours. |
