Even if the township were to bond for the rest of the money needed for the new library, it would cost the average homeowner about $60.00 a year.
Why don't we put the lake project on the ballot in November if the library must go to referendum, in your opinion? Yes, the lake is nice. Libraries are important, too, and a strong majority of the residents voted for the NJ Library Construction Bond Act. Both projects are for the good of Cranbury and many like both. |

That 60.00 has never been proven correct. There are about 1400 homes including affordable housing. 60 a home is about 84k a year.
A million dollar bond, operations and future maintenance are all
factors. Plus every home pays differently given the homes value.
Why can’t the library build based on its current funds. Why must it be so large? No one ever answers that question. Plenty of people remodel based on not taking on debt. Same applies here. |

Typical deflection argument, but I'll play. Happy to put both on the ballot then. Seems, fair, right? So will support the library question on the ballot? |

The $60.00 per average household was submitted at a township meeting last year by a former township committeeman, and economist. We need to remember that the warehouses help keep our taxes low and carry a lot of weight.

And the math and information was never explained. Since 2010 the library has said it will be an extra 60.00 when they wanted the PNC building for 1 million. |

Even if it is an extra 60.00 which has never been shown credible, it sits on top of the other expenses that we are incurring this year.
What happens when the township adds more officers as we’re hearing rumors of in town, changes the code to repair all sidewalks in town which will be millions, and starts to fund the initiatives from the new Economic Development Committee? These are things just done or discussed in the last 6 months. That excludes the bonding for the lake which in my view was needed.
The town went years without adding new costs and pet projects. That is why our taxes are so low. The TC this year was a race horse at the gate chomping at the bit to start spending similar to the early 2000 TC’s where spending shot up by millions and we had 3, 4 and 6 cent tax increases to pay for it. The resident taxes will be going up over the next few years to pay for these items and each item the Mayor and TC add has ongoing costs.
God help us if we start losing road grants, state aid is cut or worse we end up needing to fund a paid fire company. Any one of those things could severely impact our taxes. But like most TC members when the kids are all done with school they will leave the town. Wayne, Dan and Glenn are the only current residents who sat TC from the past 30 years all others have left. |

*Why not have a referendum for the lake project? One could argue that this will be more expensive for a cosmetic fix...
*The Library at least has financial backers that show just how important this project to our town. |
Using the library’s number of $60/yr, by your logic someone who politely donated $100 to their friends’ pet library project “voted” to be taxed an extra $1200 ($60/yr x 20 years)?
Do you see now how wrong that assumption is?
Put it on the ballot and let the people decide if it’s worth the money. |

I pay 3x the average tax rate in town. So I guess that means $3,600 for me. And with the new federal tax laws, none of that is deductible. |

Since the 60.00 was created 10 plus years ago PSEG has had a few rate increases, American water has increased rates and so has my trash collection. So this number isn't factual any longer and keeps being used.
So it is 60.00 plus the increases plus the regular operational increases and then the average home is $650K. If you have a home over that amount you are paying more than the average homeowner. |

The Library Board is in the process of securing a trailer to be placed on Park Place West.
The trailer will serve as a temporary home until our new library building is built.
We hope to sign the trailer lease on September 1.
Then it will be another 2 - 3 weeks for delivery and installation of the trailer. |

What is the plan if a new Library building is not built? |

Why would anyone ask Jay about the Library? Isn't Matt the TC liaison to the library? |

Why shouldn’t Jay know about the town’s public library? All TC members should know. |

Now, you're just being a snot. There's at least a dozen people who know the library's plans in the event the state doesn't come through with the money and some of them post here. It would be nice if the library folks would be forthcoming about their plans. |

Why would they post on this board? I am sure you can email them or call them and find out.
This board adds nothing but division to the issues raised here.
Maybe the admins, who I assume make money from the real estate postings, can change this board to require registration and users that use their real names. |
