FYI

I just saw this article in the Cranbury Press. The TC adopted new regulations if you live on Cranbury Neck Rd, Plainsboro Rd, or Dey Rd you are now restricted on how you design the remodel your home or what color you can paint your home.

Excellent effort from the TC to maintain the Farm/Country scenery along those picturesque roadways. Left without regulation as it has been over the past few years you can see how people will turn a natural landscape into a Picasso mess. Light shows, curbside planter boxes, front yard playgrounds like a Pocono campground, home designs of all types. While some take great pain to build Farm style homes, kept meticulous, others pile junk in their driveways and on the front lawn. Thanks TC

Doesn’t stop people from putting things on their lawn, planters are allowed, playground equipment too. Only thing you note it regulates is home design—What colors people can paint their home, what materials people can use when doing repairs and what the remodel can look like.

Can roads be widened to allow bike paths? That would ruin the look too.

Just one question. How is someone who wants to pint or remodel going to know they are doing something that is allowed? Does everyone now have to pay to go before the zoning board? Materials and colors do not fall under the uniform construction code so only a board like HPC, planning or zoning can approve.

From the article it claimed you would have to consult the zoning officer either way and that he would be able to advice which colors are allowed, etc.

The planner was wrong in his comments. As someone who did construction work the building officials can only review what requires a permit. Many things do not including painting. The zoning officer can only assess compliance on law and zoning. A judge would ask the officer what standards from the town did you rely on that blue did not meet the law and the reply would be his own. That is why people get referred to planning and zoning boards which cost money, but make the atty and planner money.

I am wondering how people know they now need approval to paint, remodel, etc?

This is just one more pile of costly restrictions on the taxpayers. This will not be uniformly enforced and will only line the pockets of the "Professionals". The vision of an artificial "Cranburyland" is a pipe dream of these out of touch committee folks. Just wait until we get the Bike Lanes and additional disturbance from the bicycle folks who will block the roadways and continue to be loud and disrupt the tranquility we once had in the OLD Cranbury we once knew.

The town can now tell me what color to paint my house? That is really important in 2020 with Covid-19 and many of my neighbors out of work. Thank you Cranbury Township Comittee on doing things that make things harder for us to live here.
