Mayor's Update - June 17, 2021

Dear Cranbury Residents,

I walked my dog Bo down Main Street on Saturday evening and was so pleased to see people outside dining at our downtown restaurants, as well as neighbors gathering in backyards and porches all around town. I hope people are savoring these opportunities to re-connect after a long period of social distancing.

At Monday’s Township Committee meeting, we passed a resolution honoring Tom Weidner’s lifetime of service to Cranbury after his passing on May 31. May his service be his legacy to our town and set an example of quiet service and leadership. Our town has an excellent legacy of both preserving our agricultural heritage and relying on dedicated volunteers, and Tom exemplified both of these tenets of our community’s success.

Guided Preserve Hikes - Thanks to the 50+ residents who joined one of the eight guided walks of our amazing preserves on June 12. These sessions followed an excellent video introduction. Thanks to Laura Zurfluh, Eman El-Badawi, Joann Charwin, Barbara Rogers and Tim Brennan for their expertise and coordination of this event as part of the Mayor’s Wellness Program, and for Tyler Cenci for producing the enduring videos. If you missed the guided walks, check out the video and explore our preserves on your own.

Brainerd Lake Dredging - The lake will be dredged this fall to remove sediment. FAQs are posted on the township page and can be found here.

Library Construction - Pre-construction activities are accelerating, and you’ll notice a construction trailer parked at 30 Park Place West. Look for time-lapse videos in the next few months and a 2022 completion and grand opening.

Summer Recreation Camp - This is a GO for summer 2021! A fun, relaxing and active summer of games and recreational events from July 6 through August 31. Enrollment information is here.

June 25 – LGBTQ+ Pride Picnic - Join a group of neighbors in Village Park from 5-7 p.m. Open to all.

June 25 – Drive-In Movie Night – Casablanca - Join the Presbyterian Church at 8:15 p.m. for this classic showing. http://cranburypres.org/drive-in-movie/

June 26 – Strawberry Festival “To-Go” - 4-8 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church. A 2021 twist on an annual favorite event!

July 5 - Fireworks - We are a GO for our traditional fireworks event in Village Park. The Economic Development Advisory Committee is working on food trucks in the park, so stay tuned for more details as that gets closer!

September 11 – Cranbury Day and Helene Cody 5K Race - We are a GO for this annual day of fun and community connection. Stay tuned for details as it gets closer.

COVID Vaccine Update - Vaccines continue to be increasingly available to our residents. As of June 8, 95% of our adult residents have received at least one dose of vaccine, leading Middlesex County. More than 84% of our adult residents are fully vaccinated, and our 12-15 year-olds are helping protect our younger residents by getting vaccinated.

Regards,

Michael Ferrante, Mayor
Cranbury Township Committee
