Mayor's Update - June 30, 2021

Dear Cranbury Residents,

I hope you’re looking forward to the July 4th holiday long weekend and traditional July 5th fireworks in Village Park.

Cranbury Lions 2021 Awards - Last week, I was pleased to attend the Cranbury Lions Award Dinner, where they honored volunteers and awarded several scholarships. I was especially humbled to personally award Cranbury Public Library Director Marilynn Mullen the 2021 Community Service award for her leadership on driving the effort to build a free-standing public library. Cranbury Press reporter Andrew Harrison summarized all the awards here.

Zoning Officer Retirement - Our long-serving Zoning Officer Jeff Graydon is retiring after 30+ years of service to Cranbury. Jeff will still be living in town, but will pass on his Zoning baton to Andrei Alexeev, who joins us this month. We wish Jeff well and thank him for his service!

Summer Recreation Camp - We are a GO for summer 2021! A fun, relaxing and active summer of games and recreational events will be held from July 6 through August 13. Enrollment information is here and there are still some slots available.

Library Construction - There is a lot of activity at 30 Park Place West! Fences are up, and dirt moving has begun. Look for time-lapse videos in the next few months and a 2022 completion and grand opening.

Brainerd Lake Dredging - The lake will be dredged this fall to remove sediment. FAQs are posted on the township page and can be found here.

July 5 - Fireworks - Come out and stroll Main Street on your way to Village Park, and enjoy Cranbury's beautiful green space, leading up to our annual fireworks display. Join us from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. for food trucks from Zinna's Bistro, House of Cupcakes, Cousins Maine Lobster, and Mr. Softee at Village Park; our eateries on Main Street will be bustling as well!

July 21 - Mindfulness Meditation Seminar 7:00 p.m. - Please join us to hear from Anjali Joshi, a certified meditation teacher, who conducts an ongoing wellness meditation program at Cranbury Library. Anjali will explain in brief what the various meditation techniques are that come under the umbrella of mindfulness and their benefits. Get More Information here.

September 11 – Cranbury Day and Helene Cody 5K Race - The annual tradition returns this year after a pandemic hiatus. Look forward to a day of fun and community connection. There will be a special moment to honor those lost on 9/11/2001. The Helene Cody 5K will be on a new course starting and stopping behind the Cranbury School and running through the Cranbury Brook Preserve and around Wynnewood Drive.

COVID Vaccine Update - Vaccines continue to be increasingly available to our residents. As of June 15, 96% of our adult residents have received at least one dose of vaccine, leading Middlesex County. More than 87% of our adult residents are fully vaccinated, and our 12-15 year-olds are helping protect our younger residents by getting vaccinated.

Regards,

Michael Ferrante, Mayor
Cranbury Township Committee
