Mayor's Update - November 23, 2021
Dear Cranbury Residents,
I wish you a restful Thanksgiving this week --- unplug, relax, and enjoy the day and the long weekend.
Congratulations to the new Board of Education members Dominique Jones, Emma Bossard and Katherine Lara, the latter two who mounted write-in campaigns for the two open spots. Thanks to all three for serving our school system. They will serve three-year terms starting in January. Eman-El Badawi and I were certified as the winners for the two Township Committee positions, also starting in January.
The Cranbury Public Library is open! The pocket library at 30 North Main Street is open for in-person browsing of the limited collection housed at that location. It’s by appointment only for now. Construction at 30 Park Place West proceeds for a Summer 2022 opening.
December 5 at 5:00 p.m. – Tree / Menorah Lighting and Flag Ceremony. Cranbury Pack 52 will light the tree and menorah and will hold a brief flag ceremony in Memorial Park. No holiday singing this year -- look for that tradition to return next year.
December 12 – Lion’s Club Pancake Breakfast. This annual tradition returns! Join your neighbors 8:00 a.m. until noon in the Cranbury School cafeteria. $8 for adults, $4 for children. Look for a visit from Santa!
December 14 - Cranbury School $18.5 Million Bond Referendum. The Cranbury School has been holding a series of information sessions on the project that will be voted on in a town-wide referendum special election on December 14. The project consists of $9.4 Million for a 600-seat Center for the Arts Education; $3.7 Million for Main Office Renovation, Security Vestibule, and Academic Commons; $2.2 Million for Cafeteria and Kitchen Renovations and Greenhouse; $2.0 Million for Parking Lot re-design and resurfacing; $899,000 for Science Room Renovations; and $196,000 for locker replacement. Details of the project, including Frequenty Asked Questions (FAQs), can be found on the December 14 Referendum Page. The outcome of this bond referendum will impact property taxes, so the Township and the Board of Education encourage all residents to learn about the project and make a plan to vote on December 14.
Consider volunteering for a Township Committee or Board in 2022! We often have openings on our various boards and commissions during the year, and each January the new year appointments are made by the Mayor and the full Township Committee. Please check out the list of boards and committees and fill out this form if you’d like to express interest. These go on file with the Township Clerk and form the basis for consideration once a position needs to be filled. There are currently vacancies on the Municipal Alliance, Parks Commission, and Clock Winding Committee. In addition, several positions will need to be filled at the January 3 Township Committee re-organization meeting.
Best wishes for a happy and healthy holiday season!
Regards,
Michael Ferrante, Mayor
Cranbury Township Committee
