I have an opportunity to communicate with a senior editor of a major paper about the impact of the current NJ RCA Bill and COAH issues on Cranbury and need some concise bullets on the issue. I just want to make sure I have the facts right, such as:

-- How many of the comments COAH received were from Cranbury and of how many total?

-- Estimated ange of new affordable houses that would have to be built based on the current revised COAH rules?

-- Impact of the loss of the RCA's on how many more of them would have to be in Cranbury

-- Current population of the twon and # of homes

There's been a ton of good info here but I am on a deadline so if anyone could churn it down to very, very brief bullets I can handle the rest. Thanks! I'll let you know if anything comes of it.

Call Chris Smeltzer, Township Administrator (609) 395-0900 ext. 224. She is the official voice of the town and can provide quick responses to fact-based inquiries.

When I called the COAH office in early May they state they received over 160 letter from Cranbury. By far the most of any community in New Jersey.

On the COAH web site you will find a letter from Lucy Voorhoeve the Executive Director to the Mayors of New Jersey from May 28, 2008 entitled "COAH’s Revised Third Round Rules" in which it is stated as follows....

"COAH proposed additional amendments to the regulations in response to the nearly 5,000 comments received from over 600 individuals and organizations. These amendments address changes needed to resolve issues brought to light during the comment period,"

The entire document can be found at:

How do they receive 5,000 comments from 600 individuals or organizations? Does that mean, on average, individuals or individual orgs are sending 8-9 different letters each?

I was thinking more about the numbers (please feel free to double check my quick math)...

600 comments from individuals and organizations

160 coments from individual Cranbury Residents

Which means 26% of the comments were from Cranbury

2006 population for New Jeresy is listed at 8.7 million people

The population for Cranbury is listed at 3,227. That means that Cranbury accounts for about .03% of the states population.

.03% of the population of the state with 26% of the comments. That sounds like a community that cares!

When you submit comments on some state web sites, you are asked if you would like to identify yourself as part of an organization. That's my guess.
