Development drives school enrollment
The construction of 16 new homes and the resale of several existing ones are the driving forces behind a 4-percent increase in student enrollment this year.
However, school officials say the increase is in line with what they had expected.
Chief School Administrator Carol Malouf said Monday that she expects enrollment to climb to 635 students for the 2005-2006 school year. Currently, 622 students are registered, and she expect 13 more to register before school starts on Sept. 6.
Last year, school started with 600 students and enrollment climbed to more than 610 students by the end of the year.
In addition, Cranbury is projected to send 241 students to Princeton High School for the 2005-2006 school year. Ms. Malouf said she didn't expect enrollment to the regional high school to increase this year.
The Cranbury School District has a contractual agreement allowing a maximum of 243 students to attend the high school. Cranbury would have to amend its contract with Princeton's Board of Education if enrollment exceeded the maximum.
