Slow Down in Our Town Kick Off

On Monday, September 29th the Cranbury Police will kick off a new campaign designed to reduce speeding in town. "Slow Down in Our Town" is a Middlesex County Board of Freeholder sponsored campaign which will display road-side signs along certain areas of town and provide an electronic message board letting drivers know that the speed limit is 25 mph in town.

The kickoff will be at 12:30 p.m. on S. Main Street. The sponsoring Freeholder and other officials will be present at 33 S. Main Street (across from the Cranbury Presbyterian Church) to officially get the campaign off the ground. Signs will be posted along S. Main Street between Cranbury Neck Road & Evans Drive.

Speeding in town is a HUGE issue and I encourage everyone to support this program and join us at the kickoff on Monday at 12:30 p.m.

If you live on S. Main Street between Cranbury Neck Rd & Evans Drive, the signs will be available on Monday. The police will be distributing starting around 9 a.m.

If you live in other sections of town such as N. Main Street, Plainsboro Road, Maplewood and Cranbury Neck, the signs will reach later in the rotations. The idea is to target certain sections for a 2 week period, then move the signs.

Contacting the Cranbury Police Dept to put your name on this list is the best way to go.

Just another way to waste tax payer's money. There are already plenty of speed limit signs clearly posted and they are not being noticed or adhered to. SO, why do u think these little unordinary signs will make a difference. You can't even read them at night. In such economic times, the programs we use must be cost effective and productive. I would rather spend this program's money on something else.

These dinky little signs have brought a lot of awareness to a major issue in Cranbury. The police have been ticketing speeders (again), our potential TC members have recognized speed as a major issue, and we have children to protect.

Perhaps you are speeding down Main Street and that is why you can't read the signs clearly!

I've stood midway in the cross walks on main, holding the hands of my two small kids, and have had ignorant people speed by me. So I see both the speed at which cars drive, and the lack of yielding to pedestrians in the crosswalks as two problems that I hope can be addressed.

This is a great program which is needed in town. I would also like to see the police enforce the crosswalk laws, such as when someone is in the crosswalk cars have to yield.

This program is very good. There was no cost to our town as it was done via a program established by our Freeholders. If we didn't participate another town would.

I do wish though that the police would use speed traps around the signs. They could sit at the church on S. Main. Walking at night I see cars easily doing 40 plus. I think a police car sitting in the church driveway would keep very busy.

I agree. Enforcement of cross walks is important too. I just walked down to school to get my child and almost got run over in front of the fire house by a woman heading south. She had no clue that she was to stop for people in a crosswalk. Glad it was me and not a child!

Thanks to Mrs Murphy and the other crossing guards who keep our kids safe during school days. Otherwise, I'm sure we'd be hearing about more accidents!
