Township Committee decides to make every effort to save historic barn on the Updike property.
The Township Committee said Monday it will try to save one of the three historic barns on the Updike property, despite already approved plans to demolish it.
The decision was made Monday after several residents asked that the township make every effort to save the dilapidated 1930s potato barn. Residents said they made the request after seeing a backhoe on the property, which was there to demolish the barn.
For the past two years, the Cranbury Lions Club has been working to lease the building from the township in order to renovate it. However, the Lions Club and the township have been unable to come to an agreement and now, they say, the cost of renovations has increased from $5,000 to $30,000 because it has sat unprotected since 2003.
