SCHOOL GUARDS NEEDED
The Cranbury Township Police Department is looking for school crossing
guards. Applicants should be able to work during the morning and afternoon
school crossings and be able to pass a background check. For an application,
additional requirements and a list of benefits, please stop by the police station
between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. or call Cheif Kahler at (609) 395-0031.

The Clerk’s Office is now located at the front window in Town Hall. The Office will be open from 8:00 a.m.
until 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. Please welcome Jean Golisano, Deputy Clerk, who started on January 5,
2009.
Spring leaf collection will begin on March 30th and continue through May 8th. Leaves should be raked and
deposited between the curb and sidewalk. If you do not have a sidewalk, place leaves close to the road and
your property.
Chipping of brush/branches commences the third Wednesday of every month and continues all year long.
Small bundles of brush should be wrapped with twine for collection. Lumber, construction materials and roots
are not acceptable chipping items. Placement of chipping at the curbside can begin the weekend prior to the
third Wednesday.

White goods/appliances are collected on the second Wednesday of every
month. For just $10 per item, you can have your white goods item picked
up at the curb. To use this service, call 395-0900 ext.229 to make
arrangements 3 days prior to the scheduled pick up date. White goods are
BBQ grills and tanks, washers, dryers, hot water tanks, stoves, refrigerators,
freezers, or air conditioners.

There is a $2.00 late fee for any dog license applications submitted after February 2, 2009.

dog license census beginning in March 2009. They will be checking for any unlicensed dog, so
please be prepared, have your dog licensed. Licensing begins January 2, 2009. Forms along

2009 CLEAN UP DATES
Scheduled for May 2nd and 3rd and October 3rd and 4th are the annual Cranbury Clean Up Days.
Drop off hours for each event are Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the
Municipal Public Works yard on Dey Road. Attendants will be on duty during these hours to
help with your acceptable discards. Residents should be prepared to provide proof of
residency.

ELECTRONIC E-WASTE DROP OFF PROGRAM
Cranbury Township has received a grant from the Middlesex County Division of Solid Waste Management to
help fund a new recycling program for our residents. These funds have been designated to purchase a shed to
temporarily house acceptable recycling items that are normally received for the Consumer Electronic Drop-Off
Program.
The recycling shed will be housed at the Public Works yard on Dey Road (where the old police station was
located). It will be open from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm, beginning March 6, 2009, and will be open every first
Friday of each month thereafter. When a legal holiday falls on this day, the second Friday will be the
rescheduled date. The scheduled dates during the first half of 2009 are:
March 6th
May 1st
July 10th
April 3rd
June 5th
Items accepted at the recycling shed will include computers (monitors, scanners, CPU’s modems, printers,
cables, and keyboards) televisions (no larger than 35”), telephones, irons, fluorescent lamps including compact
florescent bulbs, thermostats, and thermometers. These items will be recycled through Hesstech of Edison,
NJ.

CENSUS PREPARATION BEGINS TODAY
The Census Bureau is gearing up to count every person residing in America!
Every 10 years, the Census is conducted. The Decennial Census is a count of everyone residing in the United
States: in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Pacific Island Areas. All residents of the
United States must be counted. This includes people of all races, ethnic groups, citizens and non-citizens.

Summer Camp Registration Begins March 16, 2009
The Cranbury Recreation Commission will be accepting registration for both the Summer Day Camp (for
students entering grades 1 through 7) and Little People’s Program (age 3 to entering Kindergarten) beginning
March 16. Registration packets will be available on the Township website, at the Recreation Office and at the
Cranbury Library. The programs will be held for eight weeks starting June 22nd and ending August 14th. The
camp will once again be held at the Cranbury School. The Day Camp hours are 8:30 am to 3:00 pm with the
Little People’s Program running from 8:30 am to 12:00 noon. Camp activities include sports, swimming,
games, arts & crafts, trips and more.

CAT LICENSING CAN IMPACT THE SPREAD OF RABIES
Since the late 1980’s, rabies has re-emerged as a significant public health issue in New Jersey and Middlesex
County. Rabies is a fatal disease caused by a virus which is transmitted in the saliva of an infected animal.
Currently, there is no effective treatment for rabies in humans or animals. Raccoons have been the primary
animal involved in the spread of this disease to other wildlife and pets.
Most of the pets affected with rabies at that time and into the 1990’s were cats. The reason dogs were not
affected, except in several rare instances, was that licensing had been required for dogs under New Jersey law
